If you're sick of the stop-and-go nonsense of city traffic, you may be feeling like it's time to hit the open road for a nice, long trip.
Whether you're heading west to California sun, south to Louisiana culture, or even just east to the coast, a long-distance road trip can be one of the most fun ways to close out a New York summer. Here are our top three tips for travel success and safety:
Plan your route carefully: even if the road ahead of you seems simple, having a step-by-step travel itinerary--even just to fall back on--can be a game-changer. One of the biggest stresses of traveling is not knowing where gas stations, hotels, or rest stops are along the way. Get ahead of the worry, and be prepared.
Schedule a pre-trip service appointment: your travel plans likely don't include breaking down on the side of the highway. So even if you've had an inspection within the last year in Batavia, it's still a good idea to schedule a service visit for your vehicle--there may be a fluid that's low, a timing or serpentine belt that's coming loose, a tire that's losing pressure, or a taillight that's out.
Check your smartphone or GPS connection: whether you have an in-vehicle infotainment system that incorporates your smartphone, an aftermarket Bluetooth connectivity system, or a GPS navigation system, it's important to make sure that everything is working properly--and that you have the appropriate charging cords--before you leave on your trip.
